How to Create a Modern Christmas Floral Arrangement with Velvet Ribbon and Mirrored Pedestals

The holiday season always brings out my creative side, and this year, I decided to design a Christmas floral arrangement inspired by a few dreamy images I found on Pinterest. My vision? A blend of oversized, “messy” greenery arranged in a simple base, draped with cascading velvet ribbon for that touch of elegance. Here’s how it all came together … and don’t forget to watch the video at the end!

To achieve the look I was envisioning, I sourced a mix of greenery. I ordered cedar branches from Amazon and, in a stroke of luck, stumbled across some pine needle branches at HomeGoods while checking out. Although I think the cedar branches alone would have worked beautifully, the added texture and contrast from the pine needles elevated the overall arrangement.

Originally, I planned to incorporate iced branches for a bit of sparkle. While they did add a dazzling effect, the glue clumping on the beads made the branches look too dense once placed in the center. In the end, I skipped them but still feel like they’d be a gorgeous addition if you find the right ones or make your own.

For the base, I used a simple white urn vase I found at HomeGoods a few months ago. After searching online endlessly for the “perfect” vase, I realized that simplicity is key for arrangements like this. To secure the branches, I used floral foam blocks cut to size and placed them inside the vase. This helped the greenery stay in place while allowing me to adjust the branches for that “messy” yet intentional look.

The finishing touch was the ribbon. I chose a 1-inch green velvet ribbon, cutting it into various lengths and draping it over the branches. Deciding between red and green ribbon was tough, but this year I opted for an all-green theme. Maybe next year, I’ll incorporate some red!
